Bacon, Caramelized Onion Mac &Cheese Balls
Ingredients
Mac & Cheese Sock
Oil for frying
2 x Onions (Sliced)
200g Diced Bacon
150g Grated Cheddar Cheese
4 x Sliced Spring Onions
250ml Flour
2 x Eggs (Beaten)
250ml Dried Breadcrumbs
Salt & Pepper to Taste
Preparation
Cook Bacon: Heat 10ml oil in a pan and fry the bacon until cooked and crispy. Place on kitchen paper and set aside.
Caramelize Onions: In the same pan, add 10ml oil and fry the onions with a pinch of salt on low heat until caramelized. This process takes approximately 30 minutes.
Prepare Mac & Cheese Mixture: In another pot, cook the macaroni & cheese Sock following the instructions on the packet. Add the cheese powder and mix well. Incorporate the grated cheddar cheese, sliced spring onions, crispy bacon, and caramelized onions. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.
Refrigerate: Transfer the mixture to a bowl and refrigerate for at least 3 hours until it sets.
Shape into Balls: Once chilled, take the mixture out of the fridge and shape it into balls.
Coat in Flour, Egg, and Breadcrumbs: Roll the balls in flour, dip them into beaten eggs, and coat them with dried breadcrumbs. Place them on a lined tray and refrigerate for an additional hour.
